Sergio García's wife, Angela García (née Akins), is his biggest supporter on and off the golf course.
Sergio was already a superstar athlete when he met then-reporter Angela at the 2015 Shell Houston Open. The couple got engaged in January 2017 and wed later that year in July. They've since welcomed two children — daughter Azalea in March 2018 and son Enzo in April 2020.
The couple may have known each other for over a decade, but Sergio still makes Angela happy every day.
“From the very beginning Sergio, he made me laugh… He still does, makes me laugh every single day,” Angela told PGATour.com in April 2018. “He is the wittiest, quickest person when it comes to jokes and things like that that I know, and he just has such a heart, a big heart. I think that anyone who knows him well knows that about him.”
Most recently, Sergio competed at the 2026 Masters, nearly a decade after he won the tournament in 2017. During the beloved Par 3 contest, Angela, Azalea and Enzo all caddied for Sergio.
So, who is Sergio García's wife? Here's everything to know about Angela García and her relationship with the golfer.
Angela played golf at the University of Texas

Angela, who is originally from Horseshoe Bay, Texas, was born to parents Marty and Pam Akins on Oct. 25, 1985. Marty was previously a quarterback at the University of Texas and was later inducted into the UT Hall of Honor in 1995.
After graduating from Marble Falls High School, Angela had a successful golfing career in college, starting at Texas Christian University (TCU) before transferring to the University of Texas. At the University of Texas, she posted a 84-stroke per round average, according to her bio.
Because she previously played at such a high level, she gives Sergio valuable golfing advice after particularly difficult rounds.
“Having played at the level I played at, it gives us a good relationship where Sergio can talk to me about things,” Angela told Golf Digest in February 2018. “After the round I just listen and give feedback when he asks for it. He appreciates that we can have those conversations that not everyone can.”
However, Sergio and Angela don't just talk about the physical side of golf. They also talk about the mental aspect of the game, which Angela knows well due to Marty.
“Sometimes it's the mental side that we'll talk about. Mentally I was raised to be — growing up in athletics and academics — to try to be the best,” Angela continued. “My parents didn't raise me to think about beating everyone else, it was just to be the best yourself and to rise to your full potential, so Sergio and I will talk about things like that.”

After her graduation from the University of Texas with a bachelor's in journalism, Angela became a reporter for the Golf Channel.
"I grew up watching and studying sports and I love to write and tell people's stories," she told her alma mater in January 2015. "Golf is such a unique sport and I believe the stories that go with it are unique as well. Something just pulled me toward sports early on."
During the 2015 Shell Houston Open, Angela and Sergio first met — but it wasn't exactly love at first sight. Angela was getting out of a relationship at the time, so they didn't end up going on their first date until nine months later.
“It wasn't that I didn't think Sergio is going to be an amazing person,” Angela told PGATour.com. “I just have high expectations and I didn't know if he was going to meet those. And he did. He really did.”

Sergio proposed on Jan. 1, 2017 — just after the clock had struck midnight. The couple were celebrating on Angela's family ranch in Texas when Sergio started talking about how much Angela meant to him, she told PGATour.com.

“And as soon as he started saying that, I, I thought to myself, 'Oh my God, is this really happening?' And I didn't handle it well at all,” she said. “I was like, are you doing this right now? Really? In front of everyone? Oh my God."
She continued, “He's like, 'Shhhh, I'm trying to talk.' I was not cool, but anyways, and he got down on one knee and he proposed.”
A few days later, Sergio announced that he and Angela had gotten engaged alongside a celebratory photo of the couple.
“Some very exciting news for us! We are getting married this year! Thrilled to see what the future brings us! @theangelaakins,” Sergio wrote on Instagram.

Sergio and Angela ultimately married in July 2017 at Angela's family ranch — the same place where Sergio proposed. Their big day included a performance by Kenny G and a fireworks display.
Sergio wore a traditional black suit for his ceremony, but once it was time for the reception, he changed into his iconic green Masters jacket, which he won only three months earlier.
“Our wedding wouldn't have been complete without a little touch of green at the reception 💚@TheAngelaAkins #whitedressgreenjacket,” Sergio wrote in his Instagram caption.

On March 14, 2018, Angela and Sergio became parents with the birth of their first child, daughter Azalea.
“Beautiful Azalea Adele Garcia was Born on March 14 at 1:54 AM. So proud and impressed with my wife @TheAngelaAkins And the way she handled the pregnancy and delivery! Love you both so much,” Sergio wrote on X.
Azalea's name has special meaning, as it carries the same name as the type of shrubs that bloom during the Masters. It's also the nickname of the 13th hole where Sergio unexpectedly golfed for par to overtake Justin Rose, paving the way for his Masters win.
“The year before we came to Augusta, we were talking about kids and names and how many and things like that, and out of the blue [Angela] came up with the idea,” Sergio recalled to the Golf Channel in April 2018. "'Why don't we name our first kid regarding where you win your first major?' ”
He continued, “So, we started looking at different names from here, related to Augusta, obviously looked at Georgia. We looked at Magnolia, Holly, different ones, but we really liked Azalea, for different reasons. First of all, because we thought it was a very pretty name. You write it the same way in English and in Spanish, which is great, and also because it's the hole that kind of turned things around in the final round and kind of got me going, to be able to win the Masters last year.”
On April 10, 2020, Sergio announced the birth of their second child, a son named Enzo.
“Happy Easter to everyone! We're blessed to have welcomed Enzo Akins Garcia on Friday, April 10, at 6:25 pm. Enzo and Angela are both doing great. Azalea is very happy to be a big sister and loves taking care of her baby brother already,” Sergio wrote on Instagram.
