Tori Spelling says her dad, late producer Aaron, was so hands-on on the set of Beverly Hills, 90210 that he wanted to know when the cast members changed their hair styles

Spelling said hair changes "bugged" her father, but noted actors likely didn't have to run their haircuts by production as the show grew in popularity

Still, hair played an integral role in the show

Tori Spelling is sharing more about how involved her producer father was on set of Beverly Hills, 90210 — and how he wanted to weigh in on the cast members' aesthetic choices.

Spelling, 52, played Donna Martin on 90210 and her father Aaron Spelling, who died in 2006, was a producer on the show.

On an episode of 9021OMG podcast – which Spelling cohosts with Jennie Garth, who played Kelly Taylor on the Fox series – the actress noted that hair played a big role in Season 8, episode 11, in which Kelly appears with a noticeably shorter pixie cut.

"You know what I felt like? I felt like she belonged in, like, New Kids on the Block or a boy band with that haircut," Garth said of her character, Kelly.

She added: "Did she not look like Lance Bass to you?"

Saying she thought it looked "really good," Spelling added: "But you know what? So my dad had this thing, I think we've talked about this before, where anytime hair was altered on the show, usually had to get permission, probably not eighth season, I'm sure you didn't have to, but they had to write it in the script."

"I wonder why that bugged him so much though. Why is that a thing?" Spelling wondered, before Garth noted that her shorter hair was mentioned in the first line of the episode."The first line is Erica saying, 'Does Brandon like your new haircut?'"

Spelling has previously shared that her father was the reason her character Donna famously remained a virgin for so long.

In an earlier episode of the podcast, Spelling spoke with 90210 producer and writer Charles Rosin, who said the decision was "absolutely" handed down by Aaron.

“I never knew where it came from,” Spelling said of her character's virginity. “I always suspected, and people say, like, ‘He kept his daughter virgin.’”

Rosin said the “entire writing staff” was immediately on board with the idea because it helped Donna’s character stand out from the rest of the group.
