Rob Reiner and Michele Singer’ssonNick Reiner admitted to damaging their guest house during a drug-induced incident years before he was accused of his parents’ murders.

Nick, now 32, recalled the ordeal during a 2018 appearance on the ā€œDopeyā€ podcast. After one of the hosts asked him about a time when he ā€œgot sequestered in his parents’ guest houseā€ and subsequently ā€œwrecked the guest house on meth,ā€ Nick confirmed, ā€œYeah, I went 10 rounds in my guest house.ā€

ā€œIt’s not much of a story. I got totally spun out on uppers—I think it was coke and something else—and I was up for days on end,ā€ he said at the time. ā€œI started punching out different things in my guest house.ā€

According to Nick, he ā€œstarted with the TV and then I went over to the lamp.ā€ Throughout the course of his outburst, he confessed that ā€œeverything in the guest house got wrecked.ā€

Nick admitted there was ā€œno logicā€ to his actions and he was in a ā€œcrazyā€ mindset at the time of the incident. He also couldn’t ā€œeven rememberā€ whether he hurt himself while lashing out.

However, Nick claimed that he recalled his parents had ā€œtold me I had to goā€ before he destroyed their guest house.

Rob and Michele were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, December 14. He was 78, while she was 68. Nick was later arrested and charged with murder. He is being held without bail.

ā€œIt is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,ā€ the pair’s family said in a statement to Variety. ā€œWe are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.ā€

Nick is Rob and Michele’s middle child. The couple—who tied the knot in May 1989—were also parents of son Jake, 34, and daughter Romy, 27. Rob was also the adoptive father of his late first wife Penny Marshall’s daughter, Tracy, 61.

Prior to his parents’ deaths, Nick spoke publicly about his battle with drug addiction, revealing that he experienced homelessness after refusing to return to rehab.

ā€œIf I wanted to do it my way and not go to the programs they were suggesting, then I had to be homeless,ā€ he told People in 2016.

Despite his hardships, Nick looked back with gratitude for how far he’d come at the time.

ā€œThat made me who I am now, having to deal with that stuff,ā€ he said. ā€œI met crazy great people there, so out of my element. Now, I’ve been home for a really long time, and I’ve sort of gotten acclimated back to being in L.A. and being around my family. But there was a lot of dark years there.ā€

In 2015, Rob and Michele opened up about their regrets surrounding their handling of Nick’s treatment.

ā€œWhen Nick would tell us that it wasn’t working for him, we wouldn’t listen,ā€ Rob told the Los Angeles Times. ā€œWe were desperate and because the people had diplomas on their wall, we listened to them when we should have been listening to our son.ā€

Michele chimed in, ā€œWe were so influenced by these people. They would tell us he’s a liar, that he was trying to manipulate us. And we believed them.ā€
