Rob Reiner and Michele SingerāssonNick Reiner admitted to damaging their guest house during a drug-induced incident years before he was accused of his parentsā murders.

āItās not much of a story. I got totally spun out on uppersāI think it was coke and something elseāand I was up for days on end,ā he said at the time. āI started punching out different things in my guest house.ā

Nick admitted there was āno logicā to his actions and he was in a ācrazyā mindset at the time of the incident. He also couldnāt āeven rememberā whether he hurt himself while lashing out.
However, Nick claimed that he recalled his parents had ātold me I had to goā before he destroyed their guest house.
Rob and Michele were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday, December 14. He was 78, while she was 68. Nick was later arrested and charged with murder. He is being held without bail.
āIt is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,ā the pairās family said in a statement to Variety. āWe are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.ā
Nick is Rob and Micheleās middle child. The coupleāwho tied the knot in May 1989āwere also parents of son Jake, 34, and daughter Romy, 27. Rob was also the adoptive father of his late first wife Penny Marshallās daughter, Tracy, 61.
Prior to his parentsā deaths, Nick spoke publicly about his battle with drug addiction, revealing that he experienced homelessness after refusing to return to rehab.
āIf I wanted to do it my way and not go to the programs they were suggesting, then I had to be homeless,ā he told People in 2016.
Despite his hardships, Nick looked back with gratitude for how far heād come at the time.
āThat made me who I am now, having to deal with that stuff,ā he said. āI met crazy great people there, so out of my element. Now, Iāve been home for a really long time, and Iāve sort of gotten acclimated back to being in L.A. and being around my family. But there was a lot of dark years there.ā
In 2015, Rob and Michele opened up about their regrets surrounding their handling of Nickās treatment.
āWhen Nick would tell us that it wasnāt working for him, we wouldnāt listen,ā Rob told the Los Angeles Times. āWe were desperate and because the people had diplomas on their wall, we listened to them when we should have been listening to our son.ā
Michele chimed in, āWe were so influenced by these people. They would tell us heās a liar, that he was trying to manipulate us. And we believed them.ā
