- Baywatch star David Charvet was accused by a neighbor of killing their dog and driving off.
- Charvet said that he tried to move out of the way of the unleashed animal.
- Authorities have ruled the incident to be "accidental," and Charvet denies driving off and police confirmed he called 911.
*Baywatch* and *Melrose Place* star David Charvet hit a dog with his car leading to the animal's death on Thursday morning, an incident that authorities are deeming an accident.
TMZ first reported that Charvet's truck struck an 11-year-old English Labrador named Sunday in his Malibu neighborhood. The dog owner claimed that all of three of her pets were on leashes and that Charvet drove away from the scene after it happened.
Through a representative, Charvet denied any intention, claiming the dogs were off the leash in the middle of the street at 5:30 a.m., and when he slowed down and moved to the side to allow them to pass, "one of the dogs moved under the vehicle." Charvet is reportedly the one who called 911 after the incident, and the police have since confirmed his story.
"It sounds like it was accidental and that the dogs were off leash and ran into the roadway," the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Department told PEOPLE. "[Charvet] tried to swerve to avoid hitting them."
